This bite-size food is causing a big problem in our seas.

Scampi is made from langoustine tails caught by the wasteful and destructive method of bottom-trawling. Huge volumes of other fish, shellfish and corals are caught in bottom-trawl nets and discarded at sea, hidden from public view. With every packet of scampi the supermarkets sell, small and immature fish are killed as bycatch, damaging the future of fish stocks.

Say no to scampi. Tell the supermarket bosses to remove scampi from their shelves until this shocking bycatch problem is solved.

Scampi - a product that you stock in all of your major stores - is made using langoustine tails and minced white fish caught using bottom-trawls in UK waters.<br><br>This fuel-intensive method of fishing is causing serious damage to our marine environment globally and impacting negatively on the health of other once abundant fish populations here in the UK. You cannot keep turning a blind eye to this chronic bycatch problem within your supply chain. <br><br>The sourcing of scampi is neither ‘sustainable’ nor ‘responsible’. For nearly five years now, the Nephrops Fishery Improvement Project has resulted in no major improvements in the sustainability of this product and therefore does not justify any statements you make about your commitment to sustainability. Without action, you are greenwashing serious environmental harm.<br><br>I ask that you take an urgent leadership role in tackling the biodiversity and climate crises by removing scampi products from your stores until fish nursery grounds are protected, catches are monitored and wasteful wildlife bycatch is stopped.</div>
